Answering the Call: A Life of Ministry and Writing

Joseph Way

Joseph Way spent his early years on a small farm in Mississippi, where his parents instilled a strong work ethic and a deep sense of faith in their children. He pursued education with determination and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Millsaps College, a private liberal arts college in Jackson, Mississippi. He then went on to study at Vanderbilt Divinity School, where he completed both a Bachelor of Divinity and a Master of Divinity degree.

Following his studies, Joseph Way became an ordained United Methodist minister and has served in the ministry for over forty-two years. During this time, he held various roles, including fourteen years as a church pastor, twenty-three years as an Air Force chaplain, and five years as a V.A. chaplain. His work has taken him all over the world, including Germany, England, and Turkey.

In the 1960s, he took a stand against segregation, which was met with opposition and ultimately forced him to leave Mississippi. Despite his challenges, he remained committed to his beliefs and was later selected for Who’s Who in Methodism. In addition to his work as a minister, he is also a certified counselor for alcoholism in Texas.

Throughout his life, he has been passionate about writing and has authored four books: Joseph’s Journey, A Pain in the Gut, Could It Be? Biblical gems from the Garbage Dump, and Bound by Beliefs, which was later reprinted as Getting Right with God. Besides getting great reviews from his various readers, this book was also featured in The New York Times and Readers Digest.

He has been married for sixty-five years and has lived in Texas for twenty-five years. His life has been full of challenges, but he was always guided by his faith and strong sense of purpose. Through his work and experiences, he has gained a deep appreciation for the power of perseverance, commitment, and doing what is right.
